did bees exist on earth as early as 200 million years ago
Many skeptics doubt that the discovered fossil structures which are proven to be formed 200 million years ago were not created by bees. Their position is based on three points: lack of fossils of real bees, absence of flowering plants, and structures without certain patterns. However, the professor disputes their argument by giving respective explanations.
First of all, The reason why there are no fossils of actual bees discovered can be explained by the absence of trees with special characteristics. For example, the ancient bees' remains can only be preserved in a liquid produced by some kind of trees. But the trees 200 millions years ago did not exist or were very rare at that time. So the existence of the bees can be possible.
In addition, although no evidence shows to support the exists of flowering plants as early as 200 millions years ago, bees at that time might survive on non-flowering plants such as pine trees. This can also explain the existence of ancient bees.
Last but not the least, modern chemical evidence discovered some water-proving materials in these structures. We can draw some speculations that ancient bees create these materials instead of producing modern spiral patterns.
To sum up, according to the professor, all these three arguments can be explained to conclude that it is fairly possible for ancient bees to exist as early as 200 millions years ago.
