In the lecture, the professor discusses three possible ways to control the spread of mussel. This contradicts the reading, which states that there are reasons to believe that the invasion of zebra mussels cannot be stopped.
First, although this invasion could not be controlled in the past because people did not have enough knowledge, but now there are effective ways to suppress this spread. For example, ship can use ocean's salty water instead of fresh water, which kill the mussels. On the other hand, the reading says that the way ships have spread the zebra mussel in the past suggests that the species will soon colonize all of the North America.
Second, the professor asserts that although mussels do not have predators when they move to new habitat, it is a matter of time until aquatic birds notice them and eat them. This challenges the reading, which claims that zebra mussels often have no predators in their new habitats, and they most likely dominate their habitats because of the lack of natural predators.
Finally, even though mussels may have negative impact on fish population that eats plankton, they may have a positive effect on other fish species because they generate nutrients, which serve as food fo other fish species.
