The article states that working 10 hrs per day for 4 days a week is more beneficial than a staple business hours like 8hrs per day for 5 days a week and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains it is true but statement is weak and unconvincing. He refutes each of the author's reason.
First, reading states that 4 days a week will alleviate some expenses on gas and vehicle maintenance. The professor refutes this point by saying it is true some money will save but how much we don't know. Further he gives example, suppose if average person is traveling 30 miles every day to go to work. That means $15 to $20 on gas every week. After math he saves only $800 per year. He adds that this is not a drastic change according to author.
Second, reading posits that if business is open just for 4 days means there is energy saving and operational cost will be less. The professor states that if business is open only for 4 days, there will be 20% loss in business which is far greater than some hundred of dollars they are spending on operating cost.
Third, reading claims that if people get one day extra they will have more time to spend with family and children. According to professor if people are working 10 hrs per day it will be hard for them to find a daycare which takes care of kids after work hrs especially in evenings. In addition who have school going kids they won't be home in the first half of the day. So there is no point of staying home on the 5th day of the week by giving reason of a family time.
