The diagram gives detailed information about the life of the salmon from eggs to mature fish.
Looking more closely at the chart, it is obvious from the data that there are three different stages in the salmon's life cycle.
According to the diagram, salmon eggs are laid around small stones beneath some reeds. They are placed in an upper river where the water current is slow. When the time passes approximately 5 to 6 months, the eggs will become small fish called fry, which has a length between 3 and 8 cm. These fish will change their habitats by moving to a lower river where the water flows fast.
After spending time living in the lower river for about 4 years, the fish transform into young fish known as smolt, and there is size from 12 to 15 cm. They will leave these lower rivers and get to an open sea. Before the smolts completely become adult salmon that have their bodies' length between 70 and 76 cm., these young fish have to live in the open sea for at least 5 years. When becoming mature salmon, these fish will go back to the upper river again for reproduction and lay their eggs to continue the life cycle.
