The bar chart below shows the different types of accommodation chosen by the British when they went on holiday in 2010.
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of four kinds of holiday accommodation chosen by the British when they travelled to four parts of the world namely England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2010
Overall, it is clear that hotel was the most popular accommodation in all countries. By contrast, the figure for camping was much lower. Additionally, although the British rarely chose caravan when they visited England, Scotland and wales, this figure was far higher in Northern Ireland.
Firstly, as can be seen from the chart that the percentage of Britains staying at self-catering sites occupied around 30% in England, Scotland and wales. However, this figure for Northern Ireland made up just over 10%. Meanwhile, approximately 55% visitors chose hotels when they travelled to england, this was followed by about 52% in scotland, compared to 49% and 45% for wales and northern ireland, respectively.
The figures for caravan in england, scotland and wales were much lower, making up 5%, 11%, 9%, respectively. The opposite was true for Northern ireland, where more than 30% Britains stayed at caravan. The other striking feature is that there were also minority of british tourists chose camping, the figure for this fluctuated from only 5% in Scotland to approximately around 10% in the three remaining nations
