The spread of the cane toads
Both the author and lecturer discuss the problem of the spread of cane toad. While the author advanced three hypotheses to account for this problem, the lecturer on the other hand, completely rejects whether mentioned in the reading through citing three reasons.
First, both the author and the professor talk about building a national fence. According to the passage, the fence can prevent the toads from moving into those parts of Australia that they have not yet colonized. The lecturer, nevertheless, rejects the author's view and illustrates the idea that this fence cannot carry the young toads or toad's eggs to move on the other side of the fence.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that some volunteers could capture and destroy the toads. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that these untrained volunteers may destroy many of frogs.
All in all, the reading asserts that researchers should develop a disease-causing virus to control the cane toad; however, the professor insists that using the viruses may include terrible environmental damage and it may change the habitats. The lecturer goes on to claim that these developed viruses may transfer to America.
