The former had a steadily increase in figure over 50 years, with an estimated 80,000 prisoners in 1980. Meanwhile, the later fluctuated widely by about 40,000 prisoners and became the highest number of prison country in 1980.
In other way, the number of inmates in Canada witnessed a gradually decrease from 120,000 prisoners in 1930 to 80,000 prisoners in 1970, excepting 1950 increased slightly to nearly 120,000 prisoners. At the end, the figure rose modestly to approximately 85,000 prisoners in 1980. In Australia and New Zealand, the figures were respectively 70,000 and 100,000 prisoners. They declined steadily between 1930 and 1950 but elevated slightly over 20 years, with 60,000 prisoners for each country. While the figure in Australia decreased to 50,000 prisoners, it was an increase to 80,000 prisoners in New Zealand.
