The graph shows the number of marriages and divorces in the UK between 1975 and 2000.
The line graph reveals information regarding to the amount of marriages and divorces in the UK from 1975 to 2000, a period of 25 years.
In general, the biggest number was given for total marriages while the figure of 1st marriages has shown a mild drop. It is noticeable that a modest growth was being illustrated in the divorces.
Starting from roughly 500,000 marriages in 1975, total marriages in the UK have increased sharply to more than 600,000 marriages in 1985. Total marriages then fell slightly in 1995 and ended up with around 590,000 marriages in 2000. Meanwhile, 1st marriages have increased gradually to 410,000 in 1985 but dropped dramatically to 300,000 marriages in 2000.
Throughout the first 15 years, 2nd marriages continued a stable climb with slightly acceleration whereas divorces started to become popular. In 1990, the same figure of 220,000 cases were given for both 2nd marriages and divorces. After a small volatility of the next 10 years, both 2nd marriages and divorces have reached approximately 250,000 marriages together in 2000.
