TPO 23 – Integrated

Both the reading and the lecture discuss about reasons of decreasing the population of the yellow cedar trees. The reading points up three theories in order to explain this declination. However, the lecture casts a shadow of doubt about what the author mentions and presents some evidences to refute them all.

First of all, in the reading passage, the author points out that beetle larvae is responsible for decreasing the number of these kinds of tree. In contrast, the lecture brings up the idea that the yellow cedar tree emitted a poisonous or unhealthy material which could kill beetle. As a result, the larvae suffered from eating the wood. Therefore, this declination could not be created by insects.

Secondly, it was proved that, on the contrary the passage, declination accrued in the both places of Island and mainland but there are not any brown beers in the Island. Hence, how beers could reduce the size of the yellow cedar.

Finally, the lecture argues that this reduction has happened in the lower attitude places with higher temperatures and higher attitude places with lower temperatures. Whereas, evidence show that the rate of this reduction in the lower attitudes is more than higher ones. Therefore, how freezing root is responsible for this extinction. This directly contradicts what the passage indicates.
