The line chart illustrates the percentage of young adults in England who are unemployed from 1993 to 2012.
Overall, it is clear that the unemployment rate in London was consistently higher than that in the rest of England. Moreover, the proportion of jobless adults in the 16-24 age category dominated overall England.
In 1993, the people without a job in the 16 -24 age group was the highest at over 20%, then decreased sharply to 15% in 1999 and climbed significantly at 25 % in 2012. Meanwhile, although the percentage of unemployed people age 16-24 in the rest of England started at 17% in 1993, then jumped gradually to 20% in 2012. Over a period of time, the figure for people from 16 to 14 in the rest of the England age group lagged in London by a remarkable margin.
There was a dramatic decrease in the proportion of jobless adults in overall London from 14% to 7% between 1993 and 2008, then less substantially in the next period. Likewise, the rates for people who come from the overall rest of England was the lowest at 10% in 1993. After declining noticeable at under 5% from 1995 to 2004, the figure for unemployment rates experienced a minimal increase of 8% in 2012.
