Undoubtedly, poaching has always been a controversial topic among government and wildlife experts. More specifically, the writer puts forth on the idea that there are some ways to poaching rhinoceros. How ever the professor points out that there are some serious flaws in the writer's claim. To be exact, the professor believes that saving rhinoceros is not an easy thing to do. She more or less addresses the problem with each point made in the reading.
First of all, the writer claims that dehorning Rhinos would make them less attractive to poachers. He thinks removing horns of Rhinos would not hurting them and it can be done easily with right medical equipments. But the professor refutes with the point and and says that dehorning Rhinos is not practical. Remove horns from Rhinos require finding them, doing surgery on them and it cost lots of time and money. Beside that, Rhinos use their horn to dig for water, looking for food and protect their yaunges and teritory.
Secondly, the reading states that educating consumers would help with reduce the demand for horns on the market. If consumers comperhands that horns are useless in medical treatment, they no longer buy them for medicines. The professor, not surprisigly though, believes that people have really strong cultural belief in health benefits of Rhinos horns. She think these kinda old believes came from ancient time in their culture and can not be changed by educating.
Finally, author wraps up the topic by claiming that legalize government sales of Rhino horn would reduce prices on them and it will be no longer profitable for poachers to hunt Rhinos. Then again professor stays on the other side of the argument and says that legalizing sales of horns end up in larger market. Lots of people wouldn't buy horns now because they are illegal and expensive, but if government sales them, demands increase and poachers have larger market to hunt for.
