Carved stone balls
In this set of materials, the reading passage postulates that there are different
theories about the purpose of carved stone balls which have been unearthed in
Scotland, and then it provides three of them. On the other hand, the lecture states
that all of the arguments mentioned in the passage are not convincing and then
gainsays each of them.
First and foremost, the writer in the passage asserts that since the carved stone balls
have some holes, so perhaps the holes were used to throw stones Therefore, they
could be utilized as a weapon to hunt or fight. Nonetheless, the lecture maintains
that varied kinds of weapons, for example, arrows, have a sign of where, whereas,
the carved stone not only did lack it, but it also has a cracked and flat surface. As
a result, it did not use to make use as a weapon.
Next, the professor in the lecture further points out that due to the fact that the
carved stone balls are comprised of various sorts of stones with different densities
such as sand, grain, and other types of stones, hence, they could not be used as a
part of a system of weights. These claims refute the writer's implications that
because the carved stone balls have a consistent size, accordingly, they might be a
piece of a system of measures.
Ultimately, the article wraps its arguments by declaring that the carved stone might
be utilized as social meaning. The speaker in the listening rebuts this point by
insisting that it is unlikely that they used for social purposes. This is owing to the
fact that not only they had different patterns, for instance, some of them are
complex and some of them are simple, but also in the past in Nile river cities, when
people died, their possess had been buried with them, however, it was not any
evidence of the carved stone balls. Thus, its idea can not be true.
