The line graph illustrates the expenditure of British citizens on four different purposes of visiting abroad (holiday, business, visiting friends or relatives and miscellaneous) from 1993 to 2013.
Overall, it is obvious that the British spend most money on their holidays while significantly less is expended on business, friend-visiting, and miscellaneous purposes.
People living in the UK paid 9 billion pounds for their holidays abroad in 1993, which was the highest of all forms of travel. The figure surged to just above 24 billion pounds in 2008 before experiencing a sharp decline in around 2009, decreasing by approximately 3 percent. Thereafter, the amount spent on holidays remained stable at around 22 billion pounds until mid-2012 before reaching nearly 24 billion pounds in 2013.
For other forms of travel, British people spent altogether around three billion pounds on the areas, three times lower than the amount paid for holidays. Throughout the span of the two decades, their figures slightly increased with some fluctuations. At the end of the period, the money spent on business and visiting friends or relatives was at around five billion pounds while the figure for the miscellaneous purpose was just higher than one billion pounds.
