The bar chart demonstrates the average number of commuters who faced any form of incidents or accidents by various types of transport in the year 2002. Unit is measured in 100 million passenger miles traveled.
Overall, there were more incidents reported with all forms of a commute than injuries in 2002. While the most significant contributor was the demand response type of transport, the lowest was observed with commuter rail. However, the remaining three types of transportation ( heavy rail, light rail, and bus) were more or less consistent with the numbers of incidents and injuries.
Given a close look at the data, the incidents and injuries recorded for demand response type of transport were the highest of 260 and 170 million PMT respectively as opposed to commuter rail which had the lowest of around 25 and 20 million PMT.
On the other hand, the number of occurrences for the heavy rail, light rail, and bus was almost close to each other. The figures of incidents for light rail and bus were exact same of 75 million PMT compared to injuries which were about 30 million PMT more for the bus. However, for heavy rail, both incidents and injuries stayed at 50 million PMT or less than that.
