The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The pie charts compare the use of energy in an average Australian household to the greenhouse emissions due to this energy usage.
Overall, heating and water heating consume most of the energy while greenhouse gas is mostly produced by water heating and other appliances. Heating produced less greenhouse gas considering energy consumption while other categories generate more greenhouse gas in comparison with heating.
As is illustrated by the first chart, heating and water heating consume more energy which is 42% & 30% respectively. But the greenhouse gas emission significantly less in the case of heating which accounts for only 15% of the total emitted gas while water heating produces in proportion to its energy usage as 30% of the energy used in it and 32% of greenhouse gas is generated due to this energy.
The lowest amount of energy consumption is in cooling and lighting, 2% and 4% respectively. But they produce slightly more energy compared to their energy consumption which is 3% and 8% respectively. The other two categories, refrigeration & other appliances consume a moderate amount of energy where refrigeration consumes 7% and other appliances take 15% of total energy.
