The two diagrams illustrate silkworms’ life cycle and the procedure in which silk cloth is manufactured. Overall, a silkworm undergoes four phases throughout its life as suggested in the first diagram and the production of silk cloth involves six respective steps.
As can be seen from the former diagram, eggs are laid on the Mulberry leaves by moths as a commencement of the silkworm’s cycle of life. Then the eggs take around 10 days to develop into larvae. They afterwards nibble on Mulberry leaves in approximately 4 to 6 weeks to produce thread that wraps around their bodies. At the final stage of the cycle, it may take the silkworms 3 to 8 days to grow into cocoons before a new life cycle is repeated after the next 16 days.
For the latter graph, cocoons are manipulated for silk production, which comprises 6 steps. Initially, cocoons are selected to be boiled with water. The boiled cocoons are then unwound to create threads that are roughly from 300 to 900 meters long. In the next stage, they are twisted and dyed prior to being weaved and re-dyed into complete cloth, which is also the final step of the procedure.
