Write an essay in which you develop and support a position on the statement above. In writing your essay, you should consider both when the statement may be true and when it may be false.
By definition power is the ability to control or have influence over people. This control could either be by influence as outcome of the respect the person commands or by exercising it forcefully. Some might argue that the powerful are only reverenced when there power is excercised but others argue that true respect is seen when the powerful restrain from exercising it . Whichever I succumb to the point that the powerful are not always respected when they refrain from exercising it but when they do excercise, because people are always adamant to the authority when silent except when they demonstrate their and this will keep them in check.
Those who would argued that the powerful should not always excercise there power for them to be respected may be very very wrong. Consider a scenario where the government of a state impose a curfew that the people should stay indoor for a particular period of time. The people might decide to breach the governor's declaration by coming out this is because the governor decide to refrain from exceeding is power.
If the current president of Nigeria chose to excersise is power against the Boko Haram insurgence in the country . This action by the president as brought alot of Justice to his government and peace to the country. It has also earned him is respect as the president. In contrast if the president had decided to withdraw from excersing is power this would have brought a lot castrophic situations to the country such as lost of life and property as well. This would have also judge him to be incompetent to secure the people and thereby abate is respect. Therefore, a person in a powerful position only gains respect when is power is excercised.
The curbing of the Corona virus pandemic by president Biden of the United States of America, he would not have been feasible if he had not excercised is power. According the saying that the difficult species to control is the human race as others can be easily tamed. If Biden had not demonstrated is power to curb the curb the spread of the virus, the people would have gone to the extent of violating the preventive measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus. Biden excersing is power made the people to concur to the measures including lockdown and wearing of face masks. This act of obeying the president decree not only saved .the lives of many but also earned the governor is respect. So the powerful to be respected they ahve to excercise there power.
In conclusion, base in the bulk of evidence above as in the case of president Buhari of Nigeria and president trump of the United States of America, the powerful is respected when the power is not refrained but demonstrated and when done to the advantage of the people.
