It is noticeable that while the monthly temperatures in Kolkata vary considerably, the average Precipitation remain relatively steady. Over a period of January to May, the temperatures rise from 20°C to the peak of 30°C. Meanwhile, the figure of Precipitation increases gradually from somewhere around 20mm to 100mm.
The Precipitation from June to October are the highest in the city, which are the only time that the figures are higher than 150mm. In June, the amount of rainfall see a dramatic increase to 250 mm. Then the figures peaks at around 330mm in July before it plummets to 150mm in October. By contrast, temperatures from June to October do not show much fluctuation; It only dip from 30°C to about 28°C.
The rest of months in Kolkata become colder and dryer. The temperatures fall by 8 degree to the lowest point of almost 20 degree. The rainfall plummet from around 150 mm to almost zero mm.
To summarize, although the temperature and precipitation shows a positive correlation in the majority of months, it is exception for the month from June to August.
