News stories on TV and in the newspapers are often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.
What is your opinion about this?
It is argued by some people that illustrating for articles, on TV or in magazines, by pictures is more productive than words. In my opinion, I partially agree with this statement because each form of news has its peculiarity, and pictures demonstration is not more efficient in all cases.
On the one hand, many people think that TV and journals are more effective communication because pictures provide them a visual and vivid presentation. They make the audience quickly understand the content of news or stories without imagination. Additionally, graphics also bring to audiences visual effects and timeliness of the information. For example, a piece of breaking news with live streaming video gives the public not only audiovisual effect but also precision and updates of communication, which cannot be transferred by other media such as radio or full-text articles. Admittedly, at this aspect, TV and multimedia facilities show the best performance in delivering news to people.
On the other hand, the effectiveness of pictures in communication is undeniable, but personally, I believe that full-text editorials or reports still bring more productivity than TV in some cases. A proof of the non-picture article’s productiveness is that it could trigger imagination, which is sometimes very important for the audience’s experience. For example, some people prefer listening to radio news to watching TV because they could benefit from not wasting time watching and experiencing their entire imagination. Another characteristic is that some types of articles like editorials or critiques usually have the author’s analysis as main contents, and the content is mainly personal logical ideas and opinion, not necessarily requiring pictures to illustrate. Thanks to this feature, it is also more flexible to be delivered to the public, especially for radio and voice podcast lovers.
In conclusion, although TV and journals bring more visual effects to the audience based on pictures presentation, the articles with full text and voice are still more efficient than those in some cases, like for radio listeners and people who do not have time to watch TV.
