TPO 44: Birds' injuries when colliding with buildings
The reading and the lecture are both about birds. The author of the reading believes that there are
several solutions to help bird avoid building; however, the speaker effectively castss doubt on each and
every solution presented by the author. He argues that none of them is going to stop bird from getting
enjured.
To begin with, the author claims that one way glass can keep bird away, citing the fact that they cannot
see through dimmed glass. On the contrary, the speaker presents a hole in this claim by highlighting that
since these surfaces reflect like a mirror, birds and other animal can not understand it. This lead them fly
toward them.
Secondly, the essayist suggest that painting window can be helpful. Moreover, the writer disscuses that
this gives the designer to implement colorful design. However, the orator rejects this solution, putting
forth the fact that birds percieve unpainted area as a hole and they are instinctively try to fly through
them. To be more specific, in order to be effective, there should be small unpainted area in windows,
making the room pretty dim for people inside.
Finally, the penman argues that one can use artificial magnetic field in order to keep those flying creature
away. To elaborate, the author provide the evidence that unlike human needing an external instrument
for navigating, birds are equipped with natural sense of earth magnetic field. However, the speaker
reveals that the ability to be guided with earth magnetic feild is used in longer trip. moreover, he
mentions that in a migrating birds will use this ability to fly from cold environment to warmer climate, and
in shorter trip they tend to use their eyes and bright sunlight to find their way. He goes on by saying that
this strategy of using artificial magnetic field, won't probably have much effect.
