The reading passage is about the ancient reptiles who can fly and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor in the lecture refutes this argument considering it unconvincing and challenges all the points mentioned in the passage.
First and foremost, the reading avers that all modern and ancient reptiles are cold blooded, but unlikely Pterosaurs are warm blooded. The professor believes there are flaws in the author's position and oppose this argument by indicating that from fossils scientist discovered that there is a dense hair like covering similar to fur present typically in warm blooded which helps to form energy during cold environment. Furthermore, metabolism creates energy needed to fly. Hence the professor oppose the point.
Secondly, the text outlines that there is a limit of weight for animals for flight and Pterosaurs are to heavy. Nevertheless, the lecture posits that pterosaurs have anatomical features which makes them light weight. For instance, their bones are hollow instead of solid. Although their body is large but weight is low enough to keep them air borne by flapping of wings. Thus, the professor consider this point unconvincing.
Finally, the writer brings his argument to a close by suggesting that for powered flight animals have to take off from the ground. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that there is a difference between Pterosaurs and birds. Birds use only hind limbs (legs) to walk on ground and two limbs to push themselves when launch. Pterosaurs use all 4 limbs to push themselves for flying. It is a modern flying animal. Therefore, the professor considers the point in the passage invalid.
