The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The life cycle of a salmon is illustrated through the two diagrams.
Hidden among the reeds, salmon eggs can be found surrounded by small stones. After five or six months slowly moves toward the upper river, the eggs hatch into fries. Usually, a salmon “fry” will be measured around three to eight centimeters long. These babies live in the lower river, with fast flowing water.
By the time these babies reaches 12 to 15 centimeters, which is approximately four years, it termed “smolt”. At this stage, they move to the open sea. It takes around five years for a smolt to fully grow to an adult size, which is about 70 to 76 centimeters. Then, salmons will swim back to the upper river, lay eggs, and the cycle resumes.
In summary, the salmon has three distinct growing phrase. Each of these stages occurs in different aquatic sites. While the first two takes places in the freshwater environment (the river), the latter happens in the salty environment (the sea).
