The line graph illustrates information about how many incidents in three areas of crime in Newport city over a nine-year period between 2003 and 2012. Overall, the number of burglaries declined significantly while the quantities of car thefts and robberies fluctuated slightly over the timescale.
Looking at the details, as regards burglary, the figure started at around 3400 incidents in 2003, which was far higher than that of robbery. Then it rose to nearly 3800 before experiencing a sharp decrease to just above 1100 in 2008. After that, the figure went up slightly to just under 1500 in 2009, and then it underwent a slight fluctuation towards the end of the period, ending at approximately 1400.
Meanwhile, the number of car theft incidents was around 2800, ranking second in the starting year. Having remained almost stable in the next two years, it then fell to just above 2000 in 2006. Following this, there was a little fluctuation in the number of car thefts from 2006 to 2009 before going up gradually to about 2700 in 2012, becoming the most popular in the three areas of crime. Similarly, the figure for robbery was around 700 incidents in 2003. This was followed by a slight fluctuation between 500 and nearly 900 from 2003 to 2012.
