In the reading passage, the online encyclopedias are found less valuable than the traditional ones, because of several reasons.
First of all, the author argues that the people changing the content online are people who are not academically sufficient to write. On the other hand, the lecturer was disagreeing with the author and explaining her opinion by warning that neither online nor the traditional encyclopedias are perfect. In fact, she supports online encyclopedias by explaining how easier it is to correct the mistakes done in the content, whereas traditional would take decades to fix.
Second, the passage claims that online encyclopedias get damaged by vandals and hackers online. However, the woman in the lecture contrasts, and gives the fact that to change content of these sources online, they need to follow specific instructions, indeed a specific format, so that no one would change in a bad way.
Third, the author concerns about the misguidance of the audience, where not all the online content would be necessary, and in traditional ones they are curated to explain the essential topic. In contrast, the lecturer claims that since traditional encyclopedia writers had limited space, they needed to eliminate some information to present the topic. However, this elimination, she argues, might not reflect a wider perspective. Further, she adds, lots of academic articles are still found online. Lastly, she thinks that diversity of online content is more valuable than the traditional ones.
Overall, the lecturer contrasted the author in the value of online encyclopedia, and explains her reasons why online is a better option than the traditional.
