The reading and the article are contradicting each other, in terms of possible causes that might lead to the drastic death of sea otters. To be more specific, the penman of the article present three theories to support the notion that see otters were disappear due to environmental pollution. On the contrary, the speaker negates the arguments presented in the passage and mentions that see ottern were died due to their predators.
According to the article, the first dispute focuses on that fact that increasing level of ocean pollution was confirmed by collecting water sample which clearly shows threatend to the otter population and this factor seems responsible for death of the otter. Nevertheless, the lecturer undemines this by stating that researchers would have found dead otters at seashore if they died due to chemical infection in the ocean water, however they could not find any dead sample data at seashore. In fact, the lecturer suggests that otters were killed washed of by their predators in the ocean water.
Moreover, another point of debate highlights that the entire ecosystem was disturbed due to pollution, and thereby there was decline in other sea animals including seals and sealines except Orca was not affected because he usually hunt on large prey like whales. Nonetheless, the speaker rebuts this by asserting that most of the small animals have been hunted by humans. Therefore, Orca left with no option and started preying on large sea animals such as whales. Ultimately, it was not an environmental pollution but humans and Orca were respnsible for declining rate of ottars.
Finally, yet importantly, the last texts explains that uneven death pattern of otters were due to irregular spread of chemical pollution at various realm of ocean. In contrast, the prefessor reject this point and contend that Orcas are distributed irregularly in the ocean becasue some of shallow and rocky areas are difficult to live in for Orcas and in some areas, their populations are flourised. Consequently, ottars population were found normal in such areas where orchas was unlikely to have access and great number of death was found in areas where orcha used to dominant. Thus, it is judicious to say that orcas are the one which need be blamed for the loss of otter population in the Alaska.
