The article is about theories related to quacker sounds Russian sailors in submarines heard and there are three main theories article discusses. However, the professor refutes all the theories providing strong evidences.
First theory suggest that the quackers are from orca whales during a courtship ritual. The professor refutes this point by saying that it is impossible to hear orca whale sound to a submarine. This is because orca whales are surface animals while submarines usually patrolling in deep , where sound does not reach from surface level surfaces.
Second idea is that sounds were caused by giant squid. However, the professor says that this is highly unlikely. According to the professor squids were around the aforementioned area all the times and still are, however the after 1980's sailors did not hear quacker sounds. Professor explains that there is no clear reason to giant squid stop emitting these sounds.
A third theory suggest that these sounds were from a military technology, like secret submarine from another country. The professor opposes this based on two main arguments. First is the quacker sound sources and change the direction of moving suddenly while submarines are unable to control in such way. Secondly, there should be engine sounds from submarines which sailors never detected.
