Overall, the proportion of Australian inhabitants born in the UK fell dramatically. By contrast, this figure for the native Asians living in Australia surged significantly over the period shown.
Starting at nearly 15% of all the Australia population which is higher than the proportion of the Asia and other regions, the number of British people rose sharply over the period of 35 years. This figure hit the lowest point at about 5% in the last year (2011). The opposite trend is for Asian people, the period from 1976 to 2011 witnessed a substantial jump and overtook the figure for the UK before reaching the peak at about 15% in 2011. The percentage of people from other regions living in Australia experienced a slight rise and then moderately grew at the end of the period.
The total population of Australia took up the highest percentage at about 23% in comparison with that of the UK, Asia and other regions. After falling considerably, Australia saw a significant rise in population to the end of the period before reaching the peak of 20% in the year 2011.
