There has been a constant drumbeat about what is the appropriate measure to do when a speaker delivers incorrect information during class or meeting. Some people hold the point of view that interrupting immediately is beneficial, others consider keeping silent more politely. However, from my perspective, I prefer to inform the speaker after the meeting, which is the most appropriate way to do it.
First of all, interrupting and correcting immediately might embarrass the speaker. When the mistake has been broadcast the speaker is likely to be unaware the information is incorrect, questioning the professor in public might damage one's prestige. Needless to say, the speaker usually is superior, making the person embarrassed in front of the people is not a wise strategy to take. Opposing during the activity is likely to cause chaos and delay the schedule, not to mention the pace will be totally ruined.
Moreover, maintaining silence will let the mistake spread. The main purpose of the interaction is to deliver the information most importantly the correct message. By obtaining incorrect information, possible misunderstandings are likely to occur which might lead to significant disaster, also if we always choose to ignore the disinformation, the whole society won't benefit from it, It is important to set the right attitude when it comes to similar situations. Hence, saying nothing to the situation is clearly not an option.
Eventually, ask the speaker in person after the meeting to prevent wasting other people's time. Time is limited, arguing in the middle of the meeting wastes not only one's time but also everyone who participates in the activity. Furthermore, what if the professor is right and the student misunderstands the question. After a serious brainstorming then approaches the professor can prevent putting ourselves into a difficult position.
From what has been discussed above, we can safely draw a conclusion that waiting until the class or meeting is over is the best strategy to take compared to other options.
