The picture depicts what a neuron contains and how it functions.

Overall, it can be seen from the diagram a neuron is made up by a cell body which connects to other cells by a large number of junctions.

The neuron starts from the cell body (soma) which is covered wholly in what is called dendrites whose main function is to wait for the messages from other cells. After that, the messages which is received earlier then move its way to other neurons, muscles or glands through a string that is known as an axon. In addtion, to be able to transfer all the messages there will be an electrical signal that helps them travelling down the axon.

Furthermore, an axon is actually covered and protected by a group of sheaths known by the name Myelin sheaths. The sheath not only helps the message to transfer fully but also serves as a booster which speeds up neural impulses.
