The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.

The two pie charts give information about the percentage of British students in an England university who could speak other languages beside English in two different years.
Overall, it is clear that the vast majority of British students were not able to speak any other languages except for English. By contrast, a tiny number of students took German as second language in the same period.
In 2000, the proportion of students who were incapable of speaking any other languages made up 30%. This figure was reported to have raised by 5% after a ten-year period. An exactly similar trend can be seen when one looks at the statistics which shows the percentage of British students who could speak another language or two other languages.
Meanwhile, the number of British students who only spoke Spanish accounted for 20% in 2000. After 10 years, this figure has decreased by 10% and the same tendancy can be seen in the proportion of students could only speak French in addition to English. Unlike the others, the percentage of students with the ability to speak German stayed unchanged at 10% over the ten-year period.
