The bar graph illustrates changes in the age trend for population of Iceland from 1990 to 2020.
Generally, there are two basic general trends: downward and upward. As regards the first, the trends for people under 25 were down over the period, falling steadily from 25% to 18% for children under 15 and from 20% to 8% for teenagers and young adults at the end of the period. Additionally, although the percentage for people from 55 to 64 did not undergo considerable changes, it decreased by 3% in comparison with the initial value of 13%.
By contrast, the demographics for adults and the elderly went up by varying degrees. In 1990, accounted for slightly over 30%, the former grew gradually to under 40% until 2010, when it rocketed to its final mark of 49%. Furthermore, the index for the elderly, which was the lowest bar in the beginning of the period, remained stable by 2010, followed by an insignificant rise to 15%. At the end of the period, it experienced a slight reduction ending the period up with 14%.
Overall, it is noticeable that in Iceland, the proportion for the adults increased extremely, while the share for the youth decreased between 1990 and 2020.
