The lecture and the reading passage discuss whether the fireworks in a North American town are responsible for the birds' deaths. The lecturer contradicts the three reasons presented in the reading. These are the following reasons.
First of all, the lecture states that the location of the death place is out of town, which is too far from the location of the fireworks. This directly contradicts the first point presented in the reading that the timing of the bird's death coincides with the fireworks.
Secondly, birds can also die from injuries just caused by striking the ground. The lecturer claims that some people witness the birds fall to the ground without any trees or buildings nearby, which might be because of air pressure or strong wind. It is no connection with the fireworks. This contradicts the statement made in the reading that the birds have died from injuries caused by the impact of the fireworks.
Last, the red-winged blackbird is the most common species in this area. Therefore, these birds easily fall victim to any of these kinds of events, which can simply explain the phenomenon that most of the dead birds were the same species. The reason demonstrated in the reading is not convincing.
