Both the article and the lecture are about whether an efficient approach is present to save the endangered golden frog population or not. In this line of thought, the author brings up 3 solutions to overcome the fungus infection dilemma. The professor, on the other hand, believes that these ideas will not be effective and refutes them all.
First, the author suggests entering a specific species of bacteria into the golden frog's skin, producing a defined chemical, which prevents the fungus growth. The professor, conversely, rebuts this way and posits that the mentioned bacteria have entered the skin of the golden frog in a study, meanwhile, they produced that material exclusively at the early stages of their colonization. Therefore, the protection earned by introducing bacteria to frogs' skins would be temporary and won't last long.
Second, the author proposes that if the breeding of frogs accomplish in isolated fungus-free captivity and they get released when they became mature, their survival rate will enhance dramatically. However, the lecturer rebuts this notion and states that the released frogs won't stay healthy forever. He points out that even though isolated frogs may not get contaminated, wild animals still carry the fungus and they will pass it to the released mature frogs. As a result, this method will not work either.
Third, the author claims that spreading a natural defensive feature, such as increasing body temperature at the exposure of the infective fungi, among the entire population is a promising solution. The speaker, in contrast, opposes this issue and describes it as a detrimental drawback for the frog. He elaborates that if the frog increases its body temperature when infected, it costs the golden frog a huge amount of energy to spend in order to heat up. Besides, as the frog goes further in using this feature, it would be weak and ill and even die of other causes. As a result, the high body temperature of golden frogs is beneficial neither for maintaining healthy and strong nor for recovering their limited population.
