The table illustrates the consumption and production of potatoes in five different regions of the world in 2006.
Overall, it is clear that person consumed potatoes in Europe and North America was the highest figure among all the regions. It is also noticeable that the production of potatoes in Asia and Europe had the biggest figure compared to the remaining parts.
Regarding consumption, people consumed potatoes in Europe stood at 96 kg, making it the highest figure among the regions. This was followed by North America, whose figures reached nearly 60 kg. Finally, people who consumed potatoes in Africa, Asia, and South and Central America fell within a range from 14 to 26 kg, with Asia being the highest, and Africa being the lowest.
In terms of production, Asia and Europe dominated, producing approximately 131 and 126 million tonnes, respectively. Moreover, the output of potatoes in North America was the third rank with 24.7 million tonnes. The production of potatoes in Africa and South and Central America was recorded at 15.6 and 16.4 million tonnes, respectively.
