In the lecture, the professor makes several points as to why four day workweek is not useful and beneficial for individual employees and economic and companies. In fact, the professor's lecture casts doubt on the rading through a number of points elaborated as follows.
The first point that professor mentions to refute the reading is that four day workweek cannot enhance the company profit. According to the professor, four day workweek forces companies to spend more money for training and medical requiremnet. Also companies should prepare more offices and computers for employees. Thus, this point proves the main idea of the reading is wrong.
Another important point that the professor points out to undermine the validity of the reading is that four day workweek cannot decrase unemployment. As is pointed out by the professor, hiring new employees is costly. In addition employees should work over time and the company's expectation is same as the expectation of five day workweek for employees. Also no job opportunies will create and this current job is unpleasant. Therefore, this point made in the lecture also renders the main idea of the reading is invalid.
Finally, the last point the professor brought up, which runs counter to the reading is that four day workweek cannot improve the quality of employees work. As a matter of fact, the professor asserts that, four day workweek reduce employees work quality and it can be risky for them. Also employees may loose their jobs because of this policy. Hence, this point is in contrast to the main idea of the reading.
In summary the points made by the professor in the lecture casts doubt on the reading and provide sufficient grounds as to why 4 day workweek is not effective.
