The writer in the reading section states that researches of archeology faced some problems in the United Kingdom through the 20th century. The writer mentions the problems as elimination of ancient artifact by construction of new buildings, reduction of financial supports and lack of job opportunities. In following, the professor in the listening section expresses the profits of the guidelines that was introduced in order to counter these obstacles. The problems are examined in three different aspects.
Firstly, the author maintains that an enormous amount of artifacts and relics been destroyed in 1990s as a consequence of construction projects. As a solution, the speaker states that the new law forced the owners of construction sites to examine the work space before destroying the location. The law indicated that the examination must be done by a group of specialist in the field of archeology. They would evaluate the situation and perform necessary task to maintain the buildings and the artifacts, if they had historical values.
Secondly, as is said in the listening section, the constructors had to fund the examination process. This financial source would be a solution to the second problem that is mentioned by the writer, as lack of economic interests in the field of archaeology. This would be a source of income for this field and this regulation supported the development of research topics in this area.
Thirdly, another problem that the archaeology faced was the limitation of job opportunities. The professor states that the new guideline also had a solution to this problem. She indicates that the new financial interests engendered by the new obligations, created new job positions. She mentions that as a result, more attention and interest was drawn to this field and people were attracted to pursue the related research topics as their profession.
