integrated writing
Both reading and lecture try to discuss a portrait’s subject. In the reading section, the writer contends that the claim of Austen's family which mentioned the portrait’s subject of a teenage girl was Austen is acceptable and he provides three reasons for support; however, the professor casts doubts on the reading points by indicating that the evidence of connection between portrait and Austen is not convinced. Accordingly, he brings some evidence to refute the reading's reasons.
First of all, the writer claims that after a century, Austen's family has confirmed the portrait is related to Jane Austen and permit to use her portrait in her letters; in contrast the professor rejects this notion by stating that when her family authorized the portrait, Austen almost had dead 70 years ago and they have never seen her so they could not talk certainly about if the portrait was for her or not.
Moreover, the reading passage holds the view that the portrait's features are as similar as Cassandra's sketch such as eyebrows, nose, and mouth and so forth; on the contrary, the lecturer underlines the fact that at the relevant period of time, her extended family has a lot of teenagers. Also, he points out, experts believe the true subject of the portrait is one of Austen's relatives, Mary Campion, who was Austen's niece.
In addition, the writer mentions that since the style of the portrait is related to Osiers Humphrey and he worked when Austen was teenager, the portrait's subject is Austen; conversely, the professor indicates that evidence points the portrait is related later date because the stamp on the back of the picture, blank canvas, demonstrated that it sold by William Lag who did not sell canvas on london when Austen was a teenage and it was used when she was older.
