The reading and lecture discussing about clay copper jar as electric batteries but in very contrasts ways.
Firstly, reading passage says that if, ancient used the copper jar generate the power there should be conductors like wire must be there, but they did not find out any kind of materials like that. The lecturer refutes this point by stating that local people found these jars so they might not know the value of wires, that might be thrown the that wires. Further they are not archaeologist.
Secondly, reading passage suggests that ancient people might be used it for scrolling the text because they found the same size of jar in Seleucia which very popular area in the ancient time. But the speaker contrasts this point by stating that by using the iron and copper they might had produced the power and they used to it varies purpose rather than scrolling because presence of iron is evidence for that.
Thirdly, reading passage explains that if, the ancient people used these copper jars for produce electricity then there must be generator but there is no proof for that. Still, the speaker opposes this point by explaining that they may be used the power for purposes like magic and mysterious things by it's shock sensation. Further the ancient doctors might used it for healing of diseases.
To sum up, according to reading passage copper jars not used as batteries because there is no wire, all the jars are same size and there no proof for the generator but the professor refuses all these points by giving some logical evidence that says that the ancient people might be used it as batteries.
