In this set of materials, the reading passage provides three reasons in order to states that the story of the burning mirror is just a myth and Greeks never built this device. However the speaker expresses these reasons are inconvenience and refutes them.
First of all, the author mentions the ancient Greeks weren't technologically advanced enough to make such a device. This mirror that would focus sunlight was very wide and consisted of large sheet of copper. But based on the lecture, some of these pieces of copper recently has discovered. This discovering show that the ancient Greeks really built the burning mirror.
In addition, the reading passage states this device would have taken a long time to set the Romanian ships on fire, about ten minutes, and even they have to be unmoving. However the speaker disagrees with this and says that the Romanian ships weren't made of only by wood. They were made of by an additional material which is called the pitch. Pitch catches fire very rapidly.
Finally, the author says emphasizes the burning mirror doesn't seem like an improvement on flaming arrows and they prefer to use flaming arrows in order to set the ships on fire instead of the burning mirror. But based on the lecture, the speaker totally disagrees with this reason. She expresses the Romian could see the flaming arrows and protected themselves from them. But they couldn't sunlight that reflected from the mirror and the ancient Greeks could set their ships on fire very easily.
