The reading passage concentrates on several theories about the silver coins dating which is found in the North America. Conversely, the lecturer respectively points out the problems in all his assertions.
First, even though the reading passage suggests that there was a large distance between the Native American site in Maine, where the coin was located, and the eastern Canada, where the Norse first arrived from Europe, the speaker claims that it is just a case with the coins and there were lots of other objects which were found in the Native America that came from the Europe. So, this theory is ruled out.
Second, despite the statement in the reading passage that there is no other silver coins at the Canadian sites, the speaker contends that the European are not permanent settlements and they had some packs for voyage. So, it is less possible that they brought all their materials such as coins back to the Europe.
Finally, the reading passage explains that as far as there is no use of the European silver coins in the Native and North America, it is less certain that they carried coins to the aforementioned sites. On the other hand, the lecturer argues that though there was no use of these coins in the America, these coins had other applications and could be used as jewelry and necklace since American people appreciated unusual objects. Hence, this theory is refuted.
