The reading and the lecture both discuss about underwater sounds. The author of the reading provides three reasons for the possible causes of these noises. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes reasons in the reading by providing detailed information.
First of all, the author claims those sounds are calls of male and female Orca whales. The author thinks, those whales might have caused odd sounds. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The professor explains that sounds are from the deep spots in the ocean, but whales are living near the surface of the ocean.
Second of all, the author mentions that giant squids can make these noises. The professor rebuts this arguments. He states that reason was a good one in the first place, but now, it is not an acceptable reason. It is strange to have these sounds for JUST some decades. As a matter of fact, these kinds of noises are disappeared for some decades. She thinks, these kind of stops and starts are weird.
Finally, the author says that sounds might cause by military activities in other countries. The lecturer refutes this point by explaining about the direction of these sounds. Furthermore, the professor point out that the direction of these sounds are not changing very quickly. That is why this reason is not acceptable. He thinks, we do not have enough information about this matter yet.
