In this set of materials, the professor mainly discusses critics which have opposed the idea that Sinasauropteryx was a feathered dinosaur, while the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and believes that all the evidences are strong and the arguments is unconvincing.
First of all, in the text it is clearly mentioned that the fine lines may have be decomposed skin which turned to fibers due to volcanic ash. However, the professor claims that such these decomposition have not been recorder by any fossils in same site, In fact, all the fossils have been pretty preserved by the volcanic ashes, and proved that the lines feathers not the fibers which had been produced from the skin.
In addition, the professor disagrees with the statement that fine line are remains of frills not the feathers. She points out that these structures have completely different chemical elements. The feather contains particular type of protein that the frill does not have and chemical analysis of the fossils conclude that specific protein. Consequently, the remained structures are feathers not frills.
Finally, although in the text it is stated that the placement of lines made them quite useless, the professor subscribes to the view point that the feathers have a variety of functions. For instance, some birds have beautiful feathers on their tail to attract their mates. Therefore, the Sinasauropteryx\s feathers had some functional reasons. Beside this issue that the analysis of the line revealed that the feather were colorful, orange and white, which is very supportive evidence that Sinasauropteryx was feathered dinosaur.
