Rembrandt is Dutch painters who is well known of the seventeenth century. There are no consensus on the purpose that one of the his portrait could not been drawn by Rembrandt for three different reasons.
The first reason proposes that the woman in the portrait that is possessing a white linen cap of a kind that only servants would wear and she is wearing a luxurious fur collar that servants cannot able to buy. So it does not have consistence for Rembrandt style. However, lecturer states that fur collar is added after one hundred years later after made to increase painting’s value for changing servants to aristoratic lady. Furthermore, there are some extra pigments on the portrait and it makes portrait a not-original.
Based on second reason, rembrant would never make a mistake of light and shadow. However, in this painting, below the face is dark fur collar, which has to absorb light rather than reflect it. Lecturer states that on the original painting, light and shadow orientation was well. However, after fur collar added to portrait, light shadow was removed from painting and it reflect that illuminated woman fur shows why that is particilarly shadow.
The third reason holds that it was painted on the panel made of some piece of wood glued together. However, Rembrandt often painted on wood panels. The lecturer says that extra wood glues added to make the portrait more large and more valuable. In the original of painting, it is made in single piece of wood and Rembrandt has another examples of portraits which have same tree wood panels
