The author in the passage claims that chaco canyon were, in ancient time, build for residential or grain shortage or ceremonial purpose and provide three reasons of support. The lecture, however, refutes the author claims and counter each of his reasons.
At first, because modern chaco houses, being used as apartment building, resemble to the older chaco canyon structure, the author claims that it was used solely for residential purpose. The professor, in contrast, cast doubts on author claims. In additional, it was found that there were only 10 fire places on such structure, but many rooms where an 100 people can make their domicile.
Second, the article posits that it were used for grain storage as the large building is suitable for storage purpose; however, the professor contends if it was used for storage, then the maize grains or pot for storing should be found on the site, but the probing at the site reveals that there were scare amount of maize or pots.
Third, reading claims that it was used as ceremonial center because the presence of broken pots. It is believed that those pots were used to serve a festive meals, and then discarded. The author opposes that point by saying along with the pots there were presence of other unknown debris, which were not used for festival purpose. Further more, it is believed that the broken pots were the pots discarded by the construction worker at the site.
