Tidal power
The reading and the lecture are both about the tidal power which is an alternative energy souce for the generation of electrical energy. The author of the reading belives that tidal power is a sustainable souce of energy. On the other hand the lecturer caste doubt on the claims made in the article by discussing about the drawbacks of using tidal power.
First of all, the author claims that this souce of energy is non polluting and contribute no green house gases. This point is challenged by the lecturer by telling that this will change the quality of water. Besides this, even the wildlife will be badly effected. Futhermore, increase in the salinity and more amount of mud and ceramon will effect birds resulting in generating of red tide organisms that cause bad effect to the aquatic creatures.
Secondly, the use of tidal power will result in devastation of many species . For example, the abilty of migration of fishes from rivers to sea will get very difficult. However, there are methods for this problem but it will be very expensive.
Finally, the lecturer also states that the fishing boats will no longer be able to navigate. Therefore, the economy will be affected and it will become difficult to match it again.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all of the claims and theories presented in the reading.
