The article discusses that critics have opposed the idea that Sinosauropteyrx dinosaur fine lines, that have been discovered in volcanic ash, near Lioning, China, indicated that the dinosaur has a feather and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that these evidence are very strong indication that Sinosauropteyrx dinosaur does really have a feather and critics opinions are unconvincing. She refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that the thin lines have no function in the dinosaur structure and it may represents the skin that may decompose into fiber under volcanic ash. The professor refutes this point by explaining fossils have been discovered under volcanic ash well-preserved. And therefore, skin is also not damaged and lines show functional structure and are not fibers.
Second, the reading explains that even though these lines are remains of true structures of the dinosaur, it couldn't explains which exact part of the dinosaur were located. On the other hand, the professor states that it can plainly located the lines remains by identifying the composition chemically. She explains that feathers contain beta- keratin substance, however; frills do not. According to evidence, it clearly indicate that these lines contain beta keratin; consequently, it represents that Sinosauropteryx dinosaur has a feather.
Third, the article claims that structures locations along the backbone represented by the lines do not supported thermoregulation function as the normal function of feathers do. The professor disagree with this point by demonstrating that many animals, like one bird species, using their feathers that located on their tails to attract their mate. And thus, According to analyzes of these lines, the result was colorful. These lines contains orange and white colors, which strongly supported the idea that the dinosaur was using the feathers to attract mate.
