The reading states that increased human activity of using pesticides, expanded agricultural places and enlarged urban places decrease bird population. However, the professor provides examples that cast doubt on the points made in the passage.
The reading states, forests, wetlands, and grasslands replace with malls, offices and more homes. So, bird population are decreased by these changes. The professor tells us that urban city provide large bird habitat instead of degraded birth population and city complain about increased bird habitat like seagull, pigeon on streets. So, some bird population shrink, other’s increased.
The author says that agricultural areas are increased and bird habitat are negatively affected by loss of wilder area. The argument which tells us declined bird population by increased agricultural area is true but it is not soon. Truth is less land use in agriculture every year. Crops become more productive and people do not need to destroy more wild areas.
The reading assert that, human utilize pesticides to protect crops and these chemicals dissolve with water and consume by birds somehow. That cause to death of birds or damage reproduction of birds healthily. Professor describes that People are aware of consequences of pesticides on birds and other animals. They changed 2 things for nature. First of all, they degraded toxic level of pesticides and birds are not adversely affected as past. Second, crops have more resistance to pesticides and that reduces chemical effect of pesticides. So, pesticides do not harm birds at all.
