DO COMPUTERS THINK?
The reading pasage explains the Turing Test. It was discovered by a British mathematician named Alan Turing.
The lecturer elaborates the findings of John who refutes the findings of Alan Turing who questions the validity of the Turing test.
He says that the Turing Test was not accurate. He explained this by stating an example of a Chinese person sitting in a room would be able to respond to a chinese person in the other room. But the English person would not be able to respond to the Chinese person. But incase the English person was given a tool of reference in Chinese he would easily been able to do that. Similarly the computer can easily answer the question if it would be programmed to do so. Hence this casts serious doubts on the validity of the Turing Test.
He also says that the question of whether a Computer can think? is also a major concern which has not been clearly mentioned in the Turinhg Test. Whether it can really do what a Human bing can do is one of the other doubt about the study.
Hence the professor states the finding that refute the viewpoints menntione din the passage concerning teh Turing Test.
