The above lecture and the passage summarize the advantages and the disadvantages of the wind turbines and the wind farm. The professor in the lecture refutes to the view of the author in the passage and states many reasons as to why the wind turbines are advantageous.
First of all he says that although the energy required for manufacturing and transporting the wind turbines is huge, the average energy generated by the windfarms is very large and hence this initial cost can be easily overcome.
Secondly he also says that the author of the passage has overestimated the number of bird which are killed due to the wind farms. He supports this arguement by giving an evidence of a study from Denmark which states that the migratory birds usually avoid the places where there are wind farms and hence there are very few birds which actually get killed due to the windfarms as opposed to many more who are killed due to cars, traffic and also due to the pollution. Also he says that the Bats generally avoid going to the wind farms which is against of that maentioned in the passage.
Thirdly he says that most of these wind farms are located offshore and they occupy very little space as opposed to the views mentioned in the passage.
Finally he goes on to mention that most of these wind farms are situated in extremely windy areas where majority of the people would not prefer to live. Hence it does not matter how they look. Also he gives an evidence of a study from UK which states that 70% people do not mind the looks of the wind farms which is again contradicting to the views in the passage.
Hence overall as the professor enumerates the evidences of the advantages of the windfarms, he also successfully refutes the diadvantages of the windfarms in teh passage.
