The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The line graph demonstrates the quantity of water used for agriculture, industry and homes around the world over a period of 100 years from 1990 to 2000. The table compares the consumption of water in Brazil and Congo in the year of 2000.
It’s noticeable that agriculture sector surpassed any other sectors in using water while domestic sector accounted for the lowest amount of water used. We also see that water consumption in Brazil was considerably higher than in Congo.
Look at the line graph in more detail, we can see that in 1900 agriculture took up the highest quantity of water used with around 500 km3. By contrast, the number of water consumption for industry and homes ranked the same position in around one fifth of that amount. By 2000, the interesting point is that the water used in agriculture had increased to 3000 km3 while the quantity of water in industrial sector and domestic sector had risen to approximately 1300 km3 and 400 km3 respectively.
Turning to the table, there is a difference in water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000. With population of 176 million and 26500 km2 of irrigated land, Brazil consumed 359 m3 of water per person. Meanwhile, the amount of irrigated land and citizens is about 100 m2 and 5,2 million respectively. This means that the figure for water consumption per person is only 8m3.
